A 28-year-old Vietnamese adventure seeker, Hoang Le Giang, has successfully surpassed all other qualified candidates in his quest to win a 300-kilometer sled trip to the North Pole next April.

Previously, Giang registered for the Fjällräven Polar contest, established in 1997 by Swedish sled drivers Åke Nordin and Kenth Fjellborg. The competition wrapped up on December 16 with 20 winners from around the globe.

Giang was the overall winner of the contest with 113,000 votes.

Currently, he is working out hard to physically prepare for the arduous and adventurous expedition. He will fly to Alaska this coming February to begin getting acclimated to the cold temperatures.

Giang said winning the voting contest serves as a powerful message for other Vietnamese youth— “when your enthusiasm is big enough, you can achieve anything in life no matter how average you are.”
