According to details published on the ASEAN Football Federation’s page, the tournament will see the gathering of eight teams in the Asian region, including the Republic of Korea, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Iraq, Thailand, Vietnam, and the hosts Qatar.
The draw will be held in early March, with each team competing in three matches in the group stage.
All matches will get underway at the Aspire Academy and at a stadium which played host to matches during the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
FPT Play is the owner of the broadcasting rights to the tournament in Vietnam. At the Dubai Cup 2022, Vietnam won one point and ranked ninth among a total of 10 participating teams after recording a goalless draw against Iraq, as well as losing to Croatia and Uzbekistan with a score of 1-0.
This year’s tournament marks the first competition of the Vietnamese team under the guidance of new head coach Philippe Troussier. The Frenchman announced on February 28 an initial squad of 41 players for the upcoming SEA Games in May, which will be held in Cambodia.
Having previously trained the Vietnamese U19 team for the 2020 AFC U19 Championship, coach Troussier did not face any difficulties when selecting players for the latest squad.
The French coach named many outstanding players from the current U23 team. He also included several players he led during his time with the U19 team and gave opportunities to players who are performing well in the V.League 1 and the 2023 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U20 Asian Cup finals in Uzbekistan.
