For Dang Thi Hong, the turning point came after a disciplinary ban at the U21 World Championship in August 2025. At just 20 years old, the player from Thai Nguyen accepted what appears to be an early retirement following an indefinite suspension by the Vietnam Volleyball Federation.

But stepping away from the court didn’t mean stepping away from the sport. Her home club has created a path forward, appointing her as an assistant coach for youth training programs  -  a role that allows her to stay connected and share her years of experience.

She’s also begun a new academic journey at university, laying the groundwork for a future in professional coaching. If her development continues, she could eventually return to the national league in a new capacity  -  not as a player, but on the sidelines.

To supplement her income, Dang Thi Hong has also launched an online business selling sports gear, including volleyball shoes, jerseys, and training accessories. With a strong following on social media, she’s received support from fans eager to see her succeed in her next venture.

Although she hasn’t issued an official retirement announcement, the absence from training and competition signals a clear transition. For now, she’s focused on building a life beyond the net.

Meanwhile, Bich Tuyen, a fan favorite born in 2000, is also shifting gears. This time last year, she was still training with Ninh Binh’s club. But in 2026, she’s no longer part of the active roster  -  instead, she’s been integrated into the club’s staff.

According to head coach Thai Thanh Tung, Bich Tuyen will not be playing in any official matches this year. During the second leg of the 2025 national championship, she was even spotted taking on the role of team physiotherapist  -  a surprising but telling move.

Her withdrawal from professional play also means she’s unlikely to receive a call-up to the national team. She had already missed the 2025 World Championship and did not join Vietnam’s squad at the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand.

With her playing career on pause  -  and perhaps coming to a close  -  Bich Tuyen’s transition seems to mirror that of many elite athletes: a gradual shift into support roles, whether in coaching, health, or team management.

While neither athlete has made a formal farewell to the sport, their decisions reflect a quiet, steady pivot to new ambitions. They may have stepped off the court, but both are clearly not done making an impact in the world of volleyball.
