Ms. Hoa, residing in Phu Tho province, persevered through infertility treatment despite ovarian failure and poor endocrine function. After years of effort, she gave birth to a baby boy on June 14, 2024.
At the age of 48, Ms. Hoa visited Phu Tho Province Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital for an infertility examination. Her case was challenging due to her age, the low success rate of IVF, and the potential for a difficult pregnancy with unpredictable risks for both mother and baby. Despite extensive advice and encouragement from the doctors, Ms. Hoa was determined and willing to accept all risks to undergo IVF.
Dr. Doan Xuan Kien, Director of the Center for Reproductive Support and Andrology at Phu Tho Province Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, noted that Ms. Hoa is the oldest successful childbirth case at the hospital thanks to IVF. After two unsuccessful IVF procedures, she did not give up and became pregnant on the third embryo transfer.
Due to her age, Ms. Hoa's pregnancy was not without complications. In the early months, she experienced placental abruption and a threatened miscarriage, requiring treatment and monitoring at the hospital to maintain the pregnancy. The doctors closely followed her case, providing constant support to ensure a safe and healthy pregnancy.
Reflecting on the difficult and arduous journey to parenthood, both Ms. Hoa and her husband could not hold back their emotions.
