A young man in the northern province of Nam Dinh has been admitted by Chicago University for his excellent maths achievements.

Vu Anh Tai, who was a student from Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, has decided to study at Chicago University among the 12 universities in the US which accepted his results. 

After passing the entrance exam into Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted in Nam Dinh Province, Tai won a range of maths prizes, including the gold medal in International Olympiad in Maths.

He was presented with Odon Vallet scholarships in 2015 and 2016 and scholarships of the National Programme for the Development of Mathematics in the 2010 - 2020 period.

Speaking with DTiNews, Tai said that he had chances to meet Prof. Ngo Bao Chau who is working at Chicago University. Through the meetings, he found out more about the university which is said to be among the top three universities in the US. 

Tai met people from abroad when attending the International Olympiad in Informatics in Maths and this convinced him to study abroad after high school, Tai said.

He came to Hanoi to attend courses on English, maths and physics. Tai scored IELTS 8.0.

Tai has also joined many student programmes such as Sakura Exchange Programme in Science.

Tai will officially study at Chicago University this August. Besides maths, he wants to focus on several other subjects such as physics, computer sciences and economics.

If he qualifies from Chicago University, he says he will return Vietnam to work.
