1. A man who gained victory over death

Ngo Lam, born in 1981, in Ba Ria–Vung Tau had leukemia and underwent chemotherapy six times and radiotherapy 25 times. But he is now better known as the winner of many marathon and ultramarathon tournaments.

In 2017, he was informed that he had leukemia, but the serious disease could not defeat him. With guidance from a friend, Lam practiced jogging while regulating his breathing and heart rate. Step by step, Lam raised the distances he ran and broke his records.

“I feel reborn thanks to running. I could not forget the feeling when I ran 30 kilometers around Vung Tau beach,” he said.

“I struggled with death and gained victory over him thanks to regular practice and reasonable diet,” he stated.

2. The energy of armless teacher

Le Thi Tham weighed less than one kilogram at birth and she did not have arms. However, the girl lives and studies with her legs. Her mother once had to work as a cleaner to help the girl fulfill the dream of having higher education level. 

After graduating from a pedagogical school, Tham became a private tutor who taught English to poor students for free. Hearing about Tham’s story, the Thanh Hoa provincial Party Committee Secretary then requested the local education sector to recruit her for a school.

“Just walk towards the sun, the darkness will fall behind you,” she said.

3. Zen Buddhist and healer

Monk Minh Niem, born in 1975 in Chau Thanh district of Tien Giang, is currently the Number 1 Zen master in healing and psychotherapy. In addition to teaching meditation, he also runs a training center gathering 300 meditators - experts in healing meditation; organizes healing music nights combined with Dharma teachings; cooperates with the Red Cross to organize soul-lifting events; and runs the radio series "Peace in the midst of turmoil", and "Only love remains". The events organized during the tough days of Covid-19 attracted tens of millions of views. More and more teachings have been given since then.

The monk is the author of the book ‘Understanding the heart’, the first best-selling Vietnamese book about psychology. The book has been translated into many languages.

4. The female engineer who lives, sleeps with Big Data projects

Graduating from Hanoi National University, majoring in information technology, Ngoc Linh decided to take a job as a software developer for Viettel.

In 2013, she was assigned to work on a project to build the foundation for Viettel BI's centralized business data storage system, and conduct research about Big Data technology to satisfy the demand for storing Viettel’s data. This was the first step that brought Linh to the field of Big Data.

She has managed to master the core of the technology with optimal treatment regimes to create a stable platform which can satisfy Viettel’s demand for Big Data deployment.

The technology is the platform for Viettel Realtime Big Data Analytics – vRTAP – which has been used to serve big projects of VTSoft2.

Following the success, she continued to join teams that developed many Viettel’s import projects, such as Viettel Data Lake, Viettel Realtime Big Data Platform. Through the studies, Linh and her co-workers have given recommendations on doing business in telecommunications and e-commerce advertisement and helped solve many of Viettel’s problems in Vietnam and foreign markets.

5. The young man introducing Vietnam’s food to the world

Four years ago, in February 2019, Dong Van Hung, 27, began posting his videos about preparing traditional dishes on his channel ‘Am thuc me lam’ (Mom’s homemade food). At that moment, he just simply wanted to relate stories about children who live far from their hometown and remember the meals they once had with moms at their homes. He could not imagine that his videos would become well known one day and touch the hearts of so many overseas Vietnamese.

‘Am thuc me lam’ is considered the No 1 YouTube channel that can convey the message about the beauty of Vietnamese culture and culinary arts. It has over 1 million followers, and 700,000 on Facebook and 200,000 on TikTok.
