A 115-year-old woman has died of natural causes in her native Ben Tre Province.

Mr. Nguyen Van Duc spoon-fed his mother in August 2014.

Tran Thi Nguy of An Thanh Commune, Thanh Phu District, passed away three weeks ago, her son Nguyen Van Duc, 87, told the media yesterday.

Until 2014 she could walk within her house with a stick, but since then was hospitalised twice with lung inflammation.

Her health was deteriorating and her family called doctors home often, according to Pham Thi Tru, 77, her daughter-in-law.

For years locals had admired the filial devotion of her son, himself no spring chicken, for carrying her on his back around the neighbourhood to meet relatives.

Despite his own deteriorating health, Duc would feed his mother and put her to sleep every day.
