FOX Sports Asia have chosen the five best players from the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) U22 Youth Championship which recently concluded in Cambodia. Included in the list was Vietnam’s Tran Danh Trung.
Tran Danh Trung of Vietnam was one of the key players in helping Vietnam U22 achieve a third-place finish in the AFF U22 Youth Championship. Marco Ballini, a 20-year-old Thai defender of Italian descent, was an unsung hero for his team for most of the tournament. Ballini played to perfection in central defence for Thailand, helping his side keep four clean sheets over the course of five matches. Marinus Wanewar also enjoyed a lively time off the pitch with the Indonesian forward being caught in the midst of controversy after his side’s game against hosts Cambodia. On the pitch however, the 22-year-old forward was in lethal form. The Persipura Jayapura forward scored three goals during the AFF U-22 Championship, all of which came during the group stage. Heading into the tournament, Firza Andika was widely considered to be one of the biggest stars of the 2019 AFF U-22 Championship. The young defender was recently been picked by Belgian club Tubize and was expected to be a real spark for Indonesia. Saringkan Promsupa of Thailand was named as the best player of the tournament, despite being on the losing side in the final. The Thai captain put in a number of brilliant performances throughout the competition, even pitching in with three goals. Danh Trung’s biggest contribution came in the first game of the tournament, with the talented forward scoring Vietnam’s first goal as they came from behind to win 2-1 against the Philippines. He then scored two more in a 4-0 route over hapless Timor-Leste. Thanks to his strong performances in the opening matches, the Vietnamese forward finished as the joint top-scorer of the competition, with three goals to his name. |
