Since the Internet came to Vietnam 20 years ago, the country’s e-commerce is among the fastest growing globally and has become popular, especially among businesses.

According to the Vietnam E-commerce Association, the country’s e-commerce growth rate in 2017 exceeded 25 percent, and this growth can be maintained during 2018-2020.

"The average growth rate of Vietnam’s e-commerce is about 30 percent. Both retail and manufacturing businesses have accessed the e-commerce market very quickly. The market is expected to boom during 2018-2020," said Tran Anh Thai from Vietnam Payment Solution Joint Stock Company.

Regarding an information that Amazon is considering developing in Vietnam and connecting Vietnamese businesses with customers globally, experts said Vietnam has proved the attractiveness of the Southeast Asian market.

Tran Thanh Hai, Deputy Director of Import-Export Department Ministry of Industry and Trade said: "Amazon is expected to  participate in Vietnam’ e-commerce market."

"It’s an auspicious element,  helping Vietnamese businesses introduce and export their products to foreign markets," he added.

According to Director of Consumer Behaviour Research, Nielsen Vietnam, when Amazon enters Vietnam, it will effect the retail market, requiring domestic enterprises to make more efforts to ensure they can achieve international standards.

According to E-commerce Business Index of Vietnam 2018, the country’s e-commerce has boomed in recent years. However it’s not sustainable because there are gaps between e-commerce development among Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and other provinces./. VNA
