The first ever hockey match to take place in Vietnam was held in District 2, Ho Chi Minh City on December 14, attracting many spectators.
The event was jointly organized by the Consulate General of Canada and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (CanCham) to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the confederation of Canada. A friendly hockey game between West Coast Dental and Heart of Darkness teams saw the puck dropped on Vietnamese ice for the first time ever. Pictured is a figure skating performance by Canadian artists before the match. In the first minutes of the match, West Coast Dental (in white jerseys) began to dominate the ice. Kyle Micheal Nunas, Canadian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City plays for the Heart of Darkness team (in black jersey). His young son (centre) also played in the match. Even though it is a friendly, both teams are determined to win the match. They skate with passion, eager to get the puck whether with a poke check or body check. The Heart of Darkness team (black jerseys) then score two goals without response. The West Coast Dental team (in white jerseys) try hard to grab an equaliser. Photographed is a friendly exchange between two players. Ralf Matthaes, Vice President of CanCham Vietnam said the chamber will organize more events to promote Ice Hockey as a new kind of sport for Vietnamese people.
