Construction on the VND7.5 trillion (USD340.9 million) airport started in 2015.

The runways are ready for flights.

Van Don International Airport is estimated to welcome around 500,000 passengers in the first year of operation. There are claims it could welcome 5 million people by 2030.

This is the first airport invested under the form of Build-Operate-Transfer in Vietnam.

In July this year, the airport served the first flight aimed for technical checks.

The airport has 31 check-in counters and seven parking stands for Boeing 787 and Airbus 350.

An airport representative said test operations of different parts of the airport will be conducted before the official opening in December.

The airport’s design is quite similar to Changi International Airport in Singapore.

Quang Ninh’s landscapes are featured inside the airport.

Besides the domestic markets, flights from and to Van Don International Airport are expected to focus on many Asian countries such as South Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Cambodia.
