With 2016 winding down, VOV looks back at parliamentary highlights of 2016, the most notable of which were the May 22 elections to fill the 496 positions of the 14th National Assembly.
 The newly elected 14th National Assembly in turn elects the Chair, State President, Prime Minister and other key positions.   Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan is selected National Assembly Chair, the highest position ever to be held by a woman.  Tran Dai Quang is elected the new State Leader.  Nguyen Xuan Phuc is chosen Prime Minister.  The National Assembly also elects Nguyen Hoa Binh as Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court.  State, Government and other leaders present themselves before the National Assembly.  The new government has 27 members including five deputy Prime Ministers – Truong Hoa Binh, Pham Binh Minh, Vuong Dinh Hue, Vu Duc Dam and Trinh Dinh Dung.  At the second session of the 14th National Assembly, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and other cabinet members answer questions.    The National Assembly criticizes former Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang for his failures during his term of office.   The National Assembly adopts a historic resolution to stop the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Plant project from moving forward. |
