With the AFC Women’s U19 Championship fast approaching, the-afc.com has picked a player from each competing nation to watch in Nanjing, China, with Vietnamese defender Nguyen Thi Minh Anh among them.

Anh, Viet Nam’s captain, led the team to wins over Iran and India at home in the two-game qualifying campaign after the Philippines withdrew.

She was in the frame for selection to the senior side’s gold-medal-winning SEA Games run in Malaysia in August but just missed out.

The championship will be held on October 15-28. Viet Nam are in Group B alongside Japan, South Korea and Australia, while Group A includes China, North Korea, Thailand and Uzbekistan.

Viet Nam open up against Japan on October 16, face South Korea on October 19 and take on Australia on October 22.

Viet Nam’s coach Vu Ba Dong 23-player squad have trained for nearly a month to prepare. The team left for the China yesterday.
