The total fertility rate has been estimated at 2.1 children per woman this year, remaining at the replacement level of fertility.

 

According to a survey on population change and family planning in 2015 announced by the General Statistics Office of Vietnam, the nation’s urban population is at 31.45 million, accounting for 34.30%, while the rural population is approximately 60.25 million, accounting for 65.70% of the total figure.

The male population is estimated at 45.25 million, accounting for 49.35% against the female population of 46.45 million, accounting for 50.65% of the total.

The total fertility rate has been estimated at 2.1 children per woman this year, remaining at the replacement level of fertility.

In particular, crude birth rate stands at 16.20 ‰ and crude death rate at 6.81 ‰. The infancy mortality rate is at 14.73‰, while the mortality rate for children under the age of five is 22.12‰.

The average life expectancy is 73.3 years, 70.7 years for males and 76.1 years for females.

Living conditions have been generally improved over the previous year as the poverty rate in 2015 is estimated at 1.75%, compared to 2.08% in 2014. However, the gap between the rich and the poor has increased due to the relatively large difference in incomes.
