Update news vietnam's pork market
Vietnam’s major pork producers are increasing prices ahead of Tet, despite a year of high profitability driven by reduced feed costs and elevated pork prices.
Following devastating floods in Northern Vietnam, thousands of pigs have died, leading to a shortage in pork supply and a sharp increase in prices, with pork reaching up to VND 72,000 ($3) per kilogram.
Vietnam ranks as the 6th largest pork consumer globally, with each Vietnamese consuming nearly 34kg of pork annually. However, few are aware that producing 1kg of pork emits 4.84kg of CO2 into the environment.
Up to 69.5 tonnes of frozen pork and by-products from Tomsk province of Russia have been exported to Vietnam, meeting the sanitary and veterinary regulations of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the veterinary requirements of Vietnam.
The Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has announced the suspension of pork imports from Vietnam and other countries hit by the outbreak of African swine fever.
