VietNamNet Bridge – Naval ships and helicopters of many countries, including Vietnam, have participated in a Komodo multilateral naval exercise in Indonesia.
The Komodo multilateral naval exercise is held every two years by Indonesian navy, starting in 2014. Its aims are strengthening friendship, building trust and improving coordination between naval forces of the participating countries to address maritime security issues.
The 2nd exercise took place from April 12 to 16 in the city of Padang and the Mentawai Islands with the participation of 48 vessels of 16 countries, including Vietnam, Japan, Russia, Australia, USA, India, and Malaysia.
This year’s exercise themed “Readiness and Cooperation for Peace” focuses on maritime peacekeeping operations, humanitarian assistance and natural disaster relief.
The hospital ship coded 561 of the Vietnam People’s Navy left Cam Ranh Port in the central costal province of Khanh Hoa on April 3 for the Komodo multilateral naval exercise. The ship arrived in Indonesia on April 11.
Other sidelines activities include navigation exhibition, boat racing, beach soccer contests, street parade, and art performances.
