Vietnam has so far received six 636 kilo-class submarines from Russia to modernise and enhance the capacity of its navy forces to defend the country's territorial waters.
The High Command of Vietnam People’s Navy hosted a ceremony to receive the HQ 182-Hanoi submarine at Cam Ranh port in coastal Khanh Hoa province on January 15, 2014. The acquisition of the submarine is part of government plans to build an elite people’s army meeting higher requirements of national construction and defence.
