Vietnam’s tea exports dropped 11% year on year in volume to 61,530 tonnes, and 6.9 percent in value to nearly $100 million as of mid-July, according to the General Department of Vietnam Custom.
Pakistan was the largest consumption market of Vietnamese tea as it bought 13,400 tonnes worth nearly 30 million USD, up 10.8 percent in quantity and 22.3 percent in value compared to the same time last year.
Notably, Vietnamese tea export growth in the US was higher than that of other exporters like China, Argentina, Japan, India and Canada.
Vietnamese tea occupied 2 percent in the US’s total tea imports, up from the market share of 1.6 percent recorded last year.
To increase Vietnamese tea value, producers and exporters must work to develop a value chain and pay attention to food hygiene and safety.-VNA
