Update news vietnam's timber industry
China’s purchases of Vietnamese wood and wood products rose 40.4% in the first nine months of 2026, helping offset weaker US demand as manufacturers face pressure to move beyond contract production.
Vietnam's 2.5 million hectares of acacia plantations support around 1.5 million households, yet 80% of the timber still goes into low-value woodchips and pellets instead of furniture and other higher-value products.
Vietnam’s timber industry is expected to see a 15.5% year-on-year drop in exports, totaling US$13.5 billion, according to the Vietnam Timber and Forest Product Association (Viforest).
According to market insiders, the wood industry will face a big challenge due to a decrease in export orders in the latter half of this year.
