The Vinh Long Preventive Medical Centre has discovered the first ever case of Zika in the province.

The victim, 63, identified only as N.H.K. and from Vung Liem District, is in hospital and authorities are trying to identify the source of infection.

The patient had travelled to Dong Nai Province recently. In January this year Dong Nai had declared a Zika outbreak after six people contracted the disease.

The virus is spread by mosquitoes. The disease’s symptoms include a mild fever, a skin rash, conjunctivitis, muscle and joint pain and headache.
