National carrier Vietnam Airlines delayed a flight for 80 minutes to help transfer a South Korean man who was seriously injured after a traffic accident.

The flight VN957 delayed for 80 minutes to save the South Korean passenger

The 54 year-old passenger was a construction supervisor in Yangon, Myanmar. On July 25, he was crashed into by a car in the city, leaving him seriously injured. His family wanted him to return to South Korea for surgery.

His wife asked many airlines which conduct flights from Yangon to South Korea for help, however, none of them agreed as their planes were too small to take on board a first-aid stretcher.

Finally, Vietnam Airlines agreed to transport the South Korean man on its Yangon-Hanoi-Incheon route.

Vietnam Airlines technicians quickly removed six seats on its flight VN957 for the stretcher. This led to an 80-minute delay for the flight.

Initially, many passengers were very angry due to the long delay, however, after receiving an explanation for the delay, they became sympathetic with the South Korean man.

With the support from Vietnam Airlines staff, the South Korean passenger was successfully taken to Hanoi and then to Incheon through a connecting flight. After surgery in South Korea, his health has much improved.

His family expressed their thanks to Vietnam Airlines for their help.
