The two PMs hailed the outcomes of the 21st meeting of the Vietnam-Russia Inter-Governmental Committee on economic-trade and science-technology cooperation in Moscow in late October 2018.

Russian PM compliments Vietnam-Russia Tropical Centre
Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev (C) presents Certificate of Honour to Vietnam-Russia Tropical Centre’s staff
Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev granted the Order of Friendship, a state decoration of the Russian Federation, to General Director of the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Centre Nguyen Hong Du on November 19 for his contributions to the bilateral relations. He also presented a Certificate of Honour to the centre’s staff, while visiting the centre within the framework of his official visit to Vietnam from November 18-19. The Russian leader affirmed that over the past few years, the centre’s scientists have conducted a number of studies in the tropical region for both countries’ interests and within the cooperation framework. Effective cooperation between Russian and Vietnamese scientists have produced important results in science and application, with several of the centre’s scientific products proving effective and useful. The research results have contributed to protecting the ecosystem and enabling further studies for biological resources in Vietnam, especially in areas affected by toxic chemical, he affirmed. Speaking of the collaboration between the two countries at the centre, PM Medvedev considered it a factor towards developing bilateral relations not only in sci-tech, but also in the military, consolidating the comprehensive ties. Founded on March 7, 1988 under an agreement between Vietnam’s Ministry of National Defence and the Russian Academy of Sciences, the centre works to study biology, medicine, environmental pollution, and the treatment of the effects of dioxin in Vietnam. The centre operates in three main fields: tropical endurance, tropical ecology, and tropical biomedicine. It also works on the application and transfer of technology, provides scientific-technological services, and facilitates the further training of scientists. The centre is also in charge of coordinating collaboration among research organisations of Vietnam and Russia. More than 4,000 Russian scientists, including many leading experts, have worked at the centre. Coordination between the centre and its partners from the Republic of Korea, Canada, and Japan has proven effective. |
