PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc has tasked the Ministry of Transport to mull over the expansion of the North-South Expressway scope to 6-10 lanes in accordance with Vietnam’s development situation.

The Government will set aside VND 55 trillion for this public-private partnership project scheduled to complete by 2030, according to the Government Office.

The Ministry of Transport is responsible for designing component projects for implementation right after the approval of the National Assembly.

It will also take prime responsibility for working with the Ministries of Planning and Investment, Finance, Construction, Justice and the State Bank of Vietnam to devise investment mechanisms and policies for the North-South road.

Vietnam targets to build 2,000km of expressways by 2020 as part of the country’s effort to spur national development and competitiveness.
