Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on August 23 attended a banquet hosted by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), during which he called on Indonesian enterprises to invest more to Vietnam.

He said that after over 30 years of doi moi (renewal), Vietnam has become a developing country with middle income, good economic growth, stable socio-political stability and strengthened defence and security as well as enhanced position in the world arena.

Highlighting abundant business opportunities in Vietnam, the Party chief said that Vietnam has significantly improved its business and investment environment and become attractive to investors. Vietnam is striving for average economic growth of 6.5-6.7 percent each year in the next five years, and per capita GDP of 3,200-3,500 USD by 2020.

He clarified that Indonesia is now the fourth largest partner of and the fifth biggest investors of Vietnam in ASEAN, stressing that Vietnam highly values efforts of Indonesian firms and believes in the prospects of bilateral investment ties.

Vietnam always welcomes Indonesian investors and businesses, he underlined.

He also hailed the fruitful outcomes of the seventh meeting of the Vietnam-Indonesia Committee for Economic, Scientific and technological cooperation, expressing his belief that the meeting helps boost friendship and affiliation between the two countries.

At the event, Indonesian Minister of Villages, Underdeveloped Regions and Transmigration Marwan Jafar said that Indonesia and Vietnam are strong in some agricultural products and processing such as rubber planting and production, stressing that cooperation will help both sides further develop.

Meanwhile, Ciputra Group President Budiarsa Sastrawinata, who is also the President of the Indonesia-Vietnam Friendship Association, called for the investment of Vietnamese firms in Indonesia. He pledged to help connect Indonesian and Vietnamese partners, thus strengthening connections between people and businesses of both sides.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has sent a thank-you message to Indonesia President Joko Widodo after leaving Jakarta, wrapping up an official visit to the country from August 22 to 24.

In the message, the Party leader of Vietnam expressed his sincere thanks to President Widodo and other leaders and people of Indonesia who warmly welcomed the Vietnamese delegation, which, he said, illustrated the two countries’ friendship.

He noted his strong belief in a bright future of the bilateral friendship and cooperation, as well as in a united and strong ASEAN.

“I believe that the good outcomes of the visit will make an important contribution to deepening the strategic partnership, enhancing political trust, reinforcing the friendship, promoting substantive cooperation and creating new development in the two countries’ relations, for the two nations’ common prosperity, the two peoples’ happiness, and peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world,” he stressed.

The General Secretary wished Indonesia, under the leadership of the President and Government of Indonesia, will continue to grow strongly and comprehensively and play an increasing role in the region and the world.

“I wish the friendship and strategic partnership between Vietnam and Indonesia will continually develop in a sound manner,” he wrote.

Party leader lauds Indonesia-Vietnam friendship association’s efforts

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong hosted a reception for a delegation from the Indonesia-Vietnam Friendship Association led by its President Budiarsa Sastrawinata.

Budiarsa Sastrawinata said that the association, with the engagement of many Indonesian Government officials and businesses, has organised many cooperation activities with Vietnam in various fields.

Over the past years, the association has coordinated with the Vietnamese Embassy in Indonesia and Vietnamese partners to hold numerous events that contribute to promoting the connection, friendship and cooperation between the two countries, he said.

He hoped the Party General Secretary and relevant agencies of Vietnam continue supporting the association’s activities in the coming time.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong showed his delight at the growing Vietnam-Indonesia ties, while pointing to high cooperation between the two countries.

He said that during his meetings with the Indonesian leaders, the two sides agreed to promote affiliation in all fields both bilaterally and multilaterally. The two sides also concurred to encourage and back people’s organisations to strengthen their partnership, he added.

The Party chief also lauded activities of the Indonesia-Vietnam Friendship Association, expressing his hope that it will continue operating effectively to connect people, businesses and localities of both sides.

He said he beliefs that Budiarsa Sastrawinata and the association will continue working closely with the Vietnamese side for stronger, more dynamic and effective collaboration between the two countries.

On the occasion, the Indonesia-Vietnam and the Vietnam-Indonesia Friendship Associations signed a cooperation document on organising major events between the two countries, and activities to foster economic, culture partnership and people-to-people contacts between the two countries.

Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle vows to back ties with Vietnam

The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) will continue supporting Indonesia-Vietnam strategic partnership toward new achievements, said the party’s President Megawati Sukarnoputri.

She made the remark when meeting with Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, who is in an official visit to Indonesia at the invitation of President Joko Widodo, at her private home in Jakarta on August 23.

General Secretary Trong told his host about outcomes of his meetings with President Joko Widodo and other leaders of Indonesia, during which the two sides reached high consensus on the policy to deepen the bilateral strategic partnership and measures to bolster the ties across bilateral and multilateral cooperation spheres. 

The party chief urged both countries to work harder to implement agreements secured by high-ranking officials and sustain the momentum they have created for the development of their relationship in all fields.

He stressed that the Communist Party of Vietnam values and wants to expand affiliations with the PDI-P, adding that it is an important political basis to boost relations between Vietnam and Indonesia.

For her part, Megawati Sukarnoputri said her party will continue to give priority to boosting relations with Vietnam and effectively implementing agreements secured during the Vietnamese Party leader’s current visit.

She agreed with her guest on measures to boost cooperation between the two parties and expressed her wish to send more PDI-P delegations to Vietnam for experience exchanges on governance of the country.

On the occasion, Trong invited Megawati Sukarnoputri to visit Vietnam again.

Party chief visits Indonesian studies centre

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong visited Indonesia’s Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Jakarta, where he delivered a speech on the 50 years’ path of ASEAN formation, development and future road.

The Party leader recalled the traditional friendship between the two countries from the 19th century when the Nguyen Dynasty of Vietnam send the first envoy to Indonesia to boost trade ties. The relationship has been nurtured and developed. In 2013, the two countries became strategic partners.

Vietnam and Indonesia are members of ASEAN with many shared interests and similar values, he said, stressing the important role of the bloc as one of the most successful organisation in the world and a dynamic economic regionranking seventh in the world.

The building of the ASEAN Community towards a united and solidarity bloc not only benefits member countries but also other outside states, he said.

The Party chief analysed challenges facing ASEAN, while pointing out lessons helping the association succeed over the past 50 years, including those on dependence, and self-reliance, solidarity and unity as well as the central role in regional cooperation mechanisms.

In order to realise the ASEAN Vision 2025, he highlighted the need for the association to successfully build the ASEAN Community of solidarity, strength and prosperity, maintain and reinforce regionalpeace and stability, and strengthen partnership with outside partners while promoting the central role of the bloc in the regional architecture.

Over the past 22 years, Vietnam has exerted every effort to maintain and promote order in Southeast Asia based on principles of the region and international law, he said.

The Party chief said that Vietnam considers the ASEAN as a common home, and prioritises the relations with member countries.

He also expressed his hope that Vietnam and Indonesia will join hands with other ASEAN members to continue efforts in building the association.

The CSIS is a leading research agency of Indonesia and a member of the ASEAN network of international study institutions.Throughout over four decades, the CSIS has made important contributions to the research of important strategic issues of Indonesia as well as the region and the world, while making many proposals strengthening mutual understanding of regional scholars and people.
