Pop singer Dong Nhi won Best South-east Asian Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2016 on November 6.

MTV EMA 2016 was held at Ahoy Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Nominees were submitted for voting on the MTV EMA website. Nhi won the votes and defeated nominees Raisa from Indonesia, Bunkface and Yuna from Malaysia, Sarah Geronimo from the Philippines, Gentle Bones from Singapore and Thaitanium from Thailand.

"I'm surprised and happy to be a representative for Vietnam and to have won the Best Southeast Asia Act. This is an unforgettable moment in my career. I want to thank the MTV, my fans and co-workers who helped me to this victorious moment," she said.

She went on to say that she wanted the world to be more aware of the Vietnamese music scene and this was also a chance for her to gain experience. "MTV is creating chances for Vietnamese artists to become a part of MTV EMA. And it is realising its message to connect music with people and to make life better," Nhi said.

Several Vietnamese artists have won the MTV's Best Southeast Asia Act to be nominated for the Best World Wide Act with other artists in the region. Son Tung M-TP won the award last year and My Tam's win was in 2013 when it was still called the Best Regional Act.

When Dong Nhi was nominated, many other Vietnamese stars had called fans to vote for her including My Tam, Ho Ngoc Ha and Lan Khue.

After winning the Best Asian Artist at the Mnet Asian Music Awards in Hong Kong last year, she continued with various music products and hit big with the song Trach Ai Bay Gio (Who's to Blamed Now).

Dong Nhi and Ong Cao Thang successfully trained and raised many new bands such as Unị and Hello Yellow. She has contributed greatly to the local music scene after eight years as a professional singer.
