President Tran Dai Quang talked on the phone with US President Donald Trump on February 14 as the relationship between the two countries continues to develop substantively and effectively on the basis of mutual respect for each other’s independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and political institutions, as well as for the benefits of the two countries’ people and for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

President Donald Trump extended his greetings to Vietnamese leaders and people on the occasion of the traditional Lunar New Year. He conveyed his impressions on the achievements the Vietnamese people had made over the past year.

The US President also thanked Vietnamese leaders and people for their warm welcome for him and the high-ranking US delegation during his State visit to Vietnam and participation in the 25th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in November last year.

He affirmed that the US attached great importance to its relations with Vietnam and the country’s active role in the region and will continue cooperating with Vietnam in promoting the bilateral Comprehensive Partnership in the coming time.

President Tran Dai Quang congratulated the US Government and people on their achievements made during the first year of office of President Donald Trump, asserting that the US President’s State visit to Vietnam and his attendance in the 25th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting marked a significant milestone, creating a strong driving force for the effective and stable development of the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Partnership.

He emphasised that Vietnam treasured the friendship and cooperation with the US and would actively work with the country to create new and practical progress for bilateral relations in the future.

On the phone, President Tran Dai Quang and President Donald Trump also exchanged views on concrete measures to strengthen the Vietnam-US relationship, focusing on implementing the agreements reached by the two countries’ high-ranking leaders.

They agreed to continue prioritising the promotion of economic and trade relations, considering them a driving force for bilateral ties.

The two leaders also agreed to boost bilateral cooperation in other areas such as addressing war consequences, including the implementation of a dioxin remediation project at Bien Hoa airport (in the southern province of Dong Nai).

Regarding regional and international situation, the two presidents reaffirmed both sides’ positions on the East Sea issue and agreed to maintain high-level exchanges, contacts and meetings to promote bilateral relations for the benefits of the two countries’ people, thus contributing to consolidating peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
