VietNamNet Bridge - President Truong Tan Sang promoted 194 military officers and 119 police officers to the rank of general in the 2011-2016 period, according to the draft report on the President’s activities during his term.

According to the draft report, during his term (2011-2016) President Sang asked the National Assembly to elect the Vice Presidents and the Prime Minister. Based on the resolutions of the National Assembly, the President appointed six deputy prime ministers, 25 ministers and other cabinet members; dismissed one deputy prime minister, one chairman of the Government Office and one minister; and appointed 9 deputy judges of the Supreme People's Court.

Mr. Dao Viet Trung, chair of the Presidential Office, said the President signed decisions to appoint the Chairman of the General Political Department of the Vietnam People's Army and to promote 194 military officers to the rank of general, including 139 people from colonel to brigadier, 35 people from brigadier general to lieutenant general, 17 people from lieutenant general to senior lieutenant general, two people from senior lieutenant general to high-ranking general, and one to naval Admiral.

The President also promoted 119 police officers to the rank of general, including 92 people from colonel to brigadier, 20 people from brigadier general to lieutenant general, 6 people from lieutenant general to senior lieutenant general, and one person from senior lieutenant general to high-ranking general.

The President visited 22 countries around the world, received 42 heads of state, and participated in 52 meetings with 16,154 voters.

During his term, at the proposal of the Prime Minister, the President decided to award more than 880,000 medals.

As the Chairman of the Council of Defense and Security, the President signed decisions to send seven military officers to participate in the UN Peacekeeping Mission in South Sudan and the Central African Republic.

The President granted special amnesty to nearly 44,000 prisoners and commutation of death sentence for some others.

National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said the draft report was well prepared and the President has fully implemented his functions and duties stipulated in the Constitution and the law.

However, he noted that the report should have comments on the role of the President under the provisions of the Constitution so the people understand the President as the representative of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in internal and external affairs.
