VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang, his wife and a high-ranking delegation of Vietnam arrived in Lima, Peru to attend the 24th APEC Summit Week from November 17 – 20, at the invitation of the President of Peru Pedro Paplo Kuczynsky.

President Kuczynsky later hosted an official welcome ceremony to APEC leaders. President Tran Dai Quang attended the welcoming ceremony and took photos with other APEC leaders.

With the theme "Quality Growth and Human Development", the APEC Peru 2016 focused on promoting the four main priorities: regional economic links and quality growth; the regional food market; modernization of microenterprises, small and medium-sized enterprises; and human resource development.

After the welcome ceremony, the Vietnamese President attended the dialogue sessions and group sessions with the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC).

At the dialogue, the President stressed the determination of the APEC economies in the persistence of trade and investment liberalization, promoting quality growth, and supporting enterprises. He highlighted the efforts of Vietnam in promoting restructuring and improving labor productivity, emphasizing scientific - technological transfer and administrative reform.

The President expressed his wish that APEC businesses will continue to support, accompany and contribute actively to the APEC Vietnam 2017 for sustainable development and prosperity of the APEC business community and the Asia-Pacific region as a whole.

25th APEC Summit in Da Nang

The same day, the Vietnamese President attended and spoke at the closing session of the APEC CEO Summit. He also conveyed the message of welcome to APEC enterprises to Vietnam for the CEO Summit within the 25th APEC Summit Week in the city of Da Nang next year.

He said that in the globalized world of volatile changes, APEC should continue to affirm the role of initiating ideas, the driving force of creativity, and growth and economic integration. The focus of the coming years is to promote economic restructuring, improve labor productivity, develop high quality human resources, improve competitiveness and innovative capacity of enterprises, especially microenterprises, small and medium-sized enterprises... Member economies of APEC needs to create a pro-people and pro-business APEC, contributing to the maintenance of Asia-Pacific as the driving force of global growth and links.

He confirmed that after more than 30 years of renovation, Vietnam has made great achievements: from an underdeveloped country, Vietnam has become an emerging economy with average incomes. Along with that achievement is the innovation of growth model, knowledge-based economic development, especially high-tech industries, agricultural modernization, supporting industries, the marine economy and tourism industry.

Vietnam has been increasingly associated with both banks of the Pacific through the partnership, the ASEAN Community and the network of 16 free trade agreements (FTAs). Highly appreciating the support and companionship of the APEC business community during the 30 years of renovation and the nearly 20 years of participation of Vietnam in APEC, the Vietnamese President introduced the theme of the APEC Year 2017 as "Creating New Dynamism, Fostering a Shared Future” and asked all APEC enterprises to jointly make an APEC Year 2017 with new marks, and to propose initiatives and practical ideas.

The President stressed that the State and people of Vietnam warmly welcome APEC businesses to Vietnam to attend activities of the APEC Year 2017, especially the APEC Summit Weak and the APEC CEO Summit in the coastal city Da Nang.

The same day, President Tran Dai Quang also participated in the meeting of leaders of the 12 members of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP), chaired by US President Barack Obama.

Speaking at the meeting, the Vietnamese President suggested that members should strengthen cooperation on technical assistance and capacity building for developing members to share the benefits bringing about by the TPP. He believed that the implementation of the TPP will contribute to promoting extensive economic links between the 12 member states and in Asia-Pacific.
