President Tran Dai Quang paid an official visit to China on May 11-15 at the invitation of General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and President of China, Xi Jinping.
President Quang and high-ranking Vietnamese delegates arrived at Beijing airport on May 11, beginning his state visit to China. Those present to welcome the guests are Chinese Minister of Culture Luo Shugang, Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Hong Xiaoyong, Vietnamese Ambassador to China Dang Minh Khoi, Vietnamese Embassy staff and a large number of Overseas Vietnamese residing and working in China. A welcome ceremony for President Quang, the highest ritual for a head of state, was chaired by Party General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping. After the welcome ceremony, President Quang held talks with Party General Secretary and President of China, Xi Jinping. The Vietnamese State leader asked the two sides to stringently implement the common perceptions and reached agreements and commitments, in particular the agreement on the basic principles guiding the settlement of issues at sea; soundly manage the dispute and not take any action to complicate and expand the dispute. The two State leaders witnessed the signing of five cooperation documents. President Quang attended a Vietnam-China economic and trade conference in Beijing. The Vietnam President met with Zhang Dejiang, Chair of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China on the afternoon of May 11. Later in the day, President met with Yu Zhengsheng, Chair of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. Liu Yunshan, member of the Politburo Standing Committee and Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee’s Secretariat Chinese Premier Li Keqiang President of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries Li Xiaolin. The State leader paid a courtesy visit to the Vietnam Embassy in China. President Quang on May 13 toured Fujian province, a coastal locality in south-eastern China. Earlier the same day, the President visited the Fuzhou Administrative Service Centre, a model of one-stop-shop administrative services, and the ancient quarter of Sanfang Qi Xiang, a famous destination in Fuzhou. During his stay in Fujian, the President had meetings with several provincial officials, including Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Fujian People’s Congress Standing Committee You Quan, and Governor of Fujian Yu Weiguo. Following the meeting, President Tran Dai Quang and local leaders witnessed the signing of an agreement on the establishment of friendly cooperation between Vietnam’s northern province of Quang Ninh and Fujian. On the sidelines of the Belt and Road Forum in Beijing, President Tran Dai Quang met with Pakistani Prime Minister Nawar Sharif, and Secretary General of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party Toshihiro Nakai. President Quang and leaders from 29 countries took part in a roundtable discussion on May 15 as part of the Belt and Road Forum. Speaking at the discussion, President Quang said Vietnam supports initiatives on regional trade and connectivity, including the Belt and Road Initiative and is willing to join other nations in studying and implementing projects that could bring mutual benefits and sustainability. President Quang on May 15 had separate meetings with leaders from Laos, Russia, Belarus, Chile, Italy, Argentina and Myanmar on the sidelines of the Belt and Road Forum in China, including Lao President Bounnhang Vorachith, Russian President V.Putin Belarus President Lukashenko Chile President Bachelet and Italy Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni. |
