The National Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention received 30 tons of aid relief to help flood victims in the northern mountainous provinces at Noi Bai International Airport yesterday.

The donation was contributed by the ASEAN Coordinating Center for Humanitarian Assistance on disaster management (AHA), an inter-governmental organization established by ten ASEAN countries in November 17, 2011 under its target of facilitate cooperation and coordination among ASEAN Member States and with the United Nations and international organizations for disaster management and emergency.

30 tons of aid relief included 600 household kits, 3,000 personal hygiene products, 600 kitchen kits, one set of movable canvas containing goods, an electric generator with 16 KVA, and 300 home repair kits with total value of US$ 2.3 trillion.

As plan, the donation will be sent to flood victims in the provinces of Son La, Yen Bai and Nghe An where suffered serious damages after a week-long siege of flashflood and landslide. 

On the occasion, Director of the ASEAN Coordinating Center for Humanitarian Assistance on disaster management Ms. Adelina Kamal shared with losses from the recent flood and the difficulties of people in effected-areas.

This is the first time that Vietnam called for assistance from the organization, added Ms. Adelina Kamal.

On the same day, the Ministry of Health launched a fund to help flood-affected people in the Northwest provinces after a week long siege of flashfloods and downpours.

Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien, all staffs and officials voluntarily contributed their at least one day's salary to assist flood-affected people.

In the face of risk of infectious disease outbreaks, the ministry directed and informed about measures as well as medical donation to effectively control the unexpected outbreak. 

Yesterday, the Central Fatherland Front Committee of Vietnam yesterday contributed VND 105million to help flood-affected provinces in the north-west region.

On the same day, Chairman of the Central Fatherland Front Committee of Vietnam Tran Thanh Man received VND 1.5 billion from staffs and officials of Governmental Office, Presidential Office the ministries of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Information and Communications and Finance.

Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Council , head of the HCMC National Assembly deputy delegation Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam and Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front Committee To Thi Bich Chau visited and offered VND 1.2 billion and rice, instant noodles, cooking oil to 30 effected-families in Mu Cang Chai district. 

People joins hand for flood victims

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and deputy prime ministers launch a fund raising ceremony to help flood-affected in the Northwest provinces 



Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Deputy Prime Ministers Truong Hoa Binh, Vuong Dinh Hue and Vu Duc Dam yesterday launched a fund to help flood-affected people in the Northwest provinces after a week long siege of flashfloods and downpours.

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc call upon all staffs and officials of the Governmental Office to voluntarily contributed their one day's salary to the Fatherland Front Committee of Vietnam for flood-affected people of Yen Bai, Son La, Dien Bien and Lai Chau.

Total contribution of Government Offcie staffs is estimated to reach over VND 362 million.

State President Tran Dai Quang, Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh and all staffs and officials of Presidential Office yesterday offered at least their two- day salary  for flood-affected families to overcome difficulties and consequences, and stabilize production.

After working with leaders of Yen Bai province and Mu Cang Chai district on the recent downpour and flooding, Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan and the working delegation visited and offered rice, box of instant noodles, cooking oil and money to families affected by the natural disaster.

On behalf of all staffs and officials, the minister sent VND 1.5 billion to the People’s Committee of Yen Bai province.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development and Head of Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention Nguyen Xuan Cuong also called on enterprises and people to join hand for flood compatriots in Yen Bai, Son La, Dien Bien and Lai Chau.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development received more than VND 1billion.

106 people were killed and went missing during the recent torrential rains and flashflood, and nearly 1,019 houses were completely destroyed. The losses were estimated at trillions of VND.

Currently, the northern region has experienced an extreme hot air with daytime temperature of 34- 36 degrees Celsius.

Because of an influence of tropical- low pressure trough and low turbulence, the hot weather begins hitting the provinces from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen today.

The highest temperature in the areas could keep at 34 degrees Celsius.
