The Institute of Material Science under the VN Academy of Science and Technology has announced its successful application of nano technology in researching and creating Nano FGC complex.

Scientist and business leaders sign an agreement on the transfer of the Nano FGC complex production technology at a workshop today in Hanoi.

Nano FGC complex is a new material to produce medicine for cancer treatment and prevention.

The scientific research’s result was announced for the first time in VN at an event held on Tuesday in Hanoi.

Nano FGC complex has been transferred to the CVI Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Company to successfully produce CumarGold Kare, a supplement diatery for cancer patients in VN.

Nano FGC complex contains three main active elements - Curcumin from Curcuma Longa, Fucoidan from seaweed and Saponin NotoGingseng from NotoGingseng. The complex was developed based on nano technology and natural materials planted in VN.

“The FGC complex contains elements that help kill free radicals, preventing cancer, healing injuries and boosting the body’s immunisation system. The combined complex would have outstanding results compared with separate use of each material,” Prof. Dao Van Phan, former head of the Hanoi Pharmacy University’s Pharmaceutical Faculty, said.

CumarGold Kare has been tested at the National Medical Institute, showing good results in inhibiting the development of cancer cells, especially lung, liver and throat cancers, Dr Nguyễn Tiến Lĩnh from the National Medical Institute said.

At the event, scientists said the research marked an important step in applying nanotechnology to the medical and pharmaceutical industries in VN. Nano FGC complex will help increase cancer treatment rate, which currently is between 30-40 per cent, bringing new hope for cancer patients in VN.

In 2013, the VN Academy of Science and Technology successfully applied nanotechnology to produce Nano Curcumin from local yellow turmeric, commonly known as Curcuma longa -- a substance that can help cure cancer in VN.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Health, VN reported some 150,000 new cancer cases, with 75,000 people being killed by cancer every year.
