Junior wushu practitioners from Vietnam finished third overall at the 6th World Junior Wushu Championships (WJWC) in Bulgaria.
Attended by more than 500 representatives of 51 countries, the 6th edition of the WJWC got underway on September 25 in the Bulgarian city of Burgas and came to an end on October 3.
Vietnamese boys and girls won five gold, four silver and three bronze medals in both the Taolu and Sanda sections to stand third on the podium overall.
Power house China scooped 19 gold and three silver medals to win the world title while Iran finished second and Vietnam tied with Macao in third place with five gold, four silver and three bronze medals.
On the final day of competition, Nguyen Thi Hang defeated rival Devi Thoudam of India 2-0 and won a gold medal in girl’s 52kg in the sanda category.
Her teammates including Tran Thi Huong (girl’s 48kg) and Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy (girl’s 56kg) won sanda silver medals.
The WJWC is the official world championship for junior athletes and is held by the International Wushu Federation. The championship takes place biennially and features its highest competitive level within the junior (under 18 full years of age) divisions of the sport.
