Vietnamese athlete Huynh Thi My Tien qualified for the final of the women’s 100m hurdles at the Asian Junior Athletics Championship in Japan yesterday.

The southern province of Vinh Long-born player Tien clocked a time of 14.08secs in the qualifying round to make the final. Tien ’s personal best is a national record time of 14.01secs.

Today, Tien will fight for gold against strong rivals such as Lin Hsiao Hui of Chinese Taipei who topped the qualification with a time of 13.88secs.

Meanwhile, Nguyen Van Chau will compete in the men’s 200m and Cao Vo Ngoc Long will take part in the men’s high jump.

On Thursday, Vu Thi Ngoc Ha brought home Viet Nam’s first gold medal in the triple jump. She jumped 13.22m, beating China’s Pan Youqui by approximately one centimetre. — VNS
