Vu Thi Trang took a silver medal in the Vietnam Open badminton tournament, which concluded in HCM City yesterday.
Vu Thi Trang is the first Vietnamese in a final of the Vietnam Open badminton tournament.
Trang, the No 4 seed of the hosts, lost 21-9, 21-14 to Sayaka Takahashi of Japan in the women’s final at the Nguyen Du Gymnasium.
It was Trang’s third loss in her third meeting with Takahashi. However, she made history as the first Vietnamese in a final of the tournament. It was also her best result in a tournament of the Badminton World Federation’s Grand Prix.
The men’s title went to Khosit Phetpradab of Thailand, who won 21-15, 21-19 beating teammate Suppanyu Avihingsanon.
Chayanit Chaladchalam and Phataimas Muenqon, also from Thailand, championed the women’s doubles event. Alfian Eko Prasetya and Melati Daeva Oktavianti of Indonesia took the mixed doubles title. And No 7 duo from Indonesia Wahyu Nayaka Arya Pangkaryanira and Ade Yusuf Santoso secured men’s doubles gold.
