As June begins, Vietnam’s gasoline motorcycle market remains sluggish, with dealerships continuing to reduce prices in response to weaker consumer demand. Many popular models are now being offered at discounts ranging from USD39 to USD196.

The Yamaha Grande is among the models receiving the largest discounts this month.

According to market surveys, Yamaha motorcycles have experienced more aggressive price adjustments than in previous months, with some models seeing reductions of up to USD196. Meanwhile, most Honda models have become around USD39 cheaper, although several best-selling models continue to command prices above manufacturers’ suggested retail levels.

Yamaha leads the discount wave

The Yamaha Grande has recorded one of the most significant price reductions this month. The scooter is now selling for around USD1,648, roughly USD196 lower than last month.

Powered by a 125cc Blue Core Hybrid engine, the Grande features an automatic stop-start system and a large storage compartment. It is designed primarily for urban commuting and fuel efficiency, although acceleration remains less impressive than some rivals in the same displacement category.

The Yamaha NVX has also been discounted by approximately USD196. Standard white and silver versions are currently priced at around USD2,099, while the black version costs about USD2,158. The SP and GP variants are selling for roughly USD2,550.

The NVX is equipped with a 155cc engine featuring Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) technology and anti-lock braking systems (ABS) on selected versions. The model is larger and heavier than most mainstream scooters, with a relatively tall seat height.

A Yamaha dealership employee in Hanoi's Long Bien district said the Grande and NVX received the largest discounts because their higher prices make reductions more noticeable to customers.

According to the dealer, scooter sales during the past month declined by around 20-30% compared with the beginning of the year.

In addition to the Grande and NVX, the Yamaha Gear Hybrid has also seen significant price adjustments. The standard version is now selling for approximately USD1,138, while the premium version costs around USD1,275, representing reductions of USD59-78 compared with the previous month.

Powered by a 125cc Blue Core engine, the Gear offers high ground clearance and a spacious floorboard. Equipment levels remain basic, making it suitable for everyday commuting.

The Yamaha PG-1 is currently available for around USD1,412. The model uses a 113.7cc engine and features a versatile design with large wheels and generous ground clearance. While suitable for a variety of road conditions, its power output remains similar to many conventional underbone motorcycles.

Unlike other Yamaha models, the Yamaha Janus has largely maintained its price due to limited supply. The special edition currently sells for around USD1,295. The Janus uses a 125cc Blue Core engine and benefits from a lightweight, compact design, although it offers fewer features than the Grande.

"Motorcycle demand at the end of May and beginning of June declined significantly compared with the same period last year. Customers are still visiting showrooms, but the conversion rate is much lower. Many buyers are waiting for further promotions or deeper discounts, forcing dealers to adjust prices to stimulate demand," said a Yamaha dealer representative in Hanoi's Cau Giay district.

Honda prices ease but remain above suggested levels

At the beginning of June, the retail prices of many Honda motorcycle models were adjusted downward by around USD39 compared with the previous month.

At Honda dealerships, most models have become approximately USD39 cheaper compared with last month.

A sales representative at a Honda dealership in Hanoi's Dong Anh district said the market has entered its traditional low season.

"Following the pre- and post-Lunar New Year sales peak, demand typically slows. Most customers are asking about the Vision, Lead and Air Blade, but actual transaction volumes are lower than during the same period last year," the representative said.

The Honda Vision remains one of the most heavily discounted mainstream scooters.

The standard version now sells for approximately USD1,255, while the premium version costs around USD1,334. The special edition is priced at roughly USD1,373, and the sports version at around USD1,491.

Powered by a 110cc eSP engine, the Vision is known for its compact dimensions and fuel efficiency. However, its storage compartment is smaller than those of several competitors.

The Honda Lead is currently priced between USD1,628 and USD1,805 depending on the version. Equipped with a 125cc eSP+ engine, the model offers a luggage compartment exceeding 37 liters. The larger body size provides practicality but also increases weight compared with the Vision.

In the sporty scooter segment, the Honda Air Blade 125 ranges from approximately USD1,805 to USD1,962, while the Air Blade 160 sells for around USD2,295 to USD2,393.

Both versions use Honda's eSP+ engine and feature smart key systems on many variants. Retail prices remain notably higher than official list prices.

The Honda SH Mode currently sells for between USD2,373 and USD2,628.

Meanwhile, the Honda SH125 ranges from approximately USD3,275 to USD3,608, while the SH160 is priced between USD3,902 and USD4,373. Both models have become around USD39-59 cheaper compared with May.

The SH range is equipped with eSP+ engines, ABS braking systems on selected versions and USB charging ports. Despite recent reductions, actual retail prices continue to exceed manufacturers' recommended pricing.

Among manual-transmission motorcycles, the Honda Wave Alpha remains one of the models with the largest dealership markups.

The motorcycle currently sells for approximately USD793-832, significantly higher than its suggested retail price of about USD703. Equipped with a 110cc engine and four-speed transmission, the Wave Alpha remains one of Vietnam's most popular entry-level motorcycles.

Vespa offers registration incentives

Within the Piaggio lineup, dealerships are not offering direct discounts but are instead providing registration support worth approximately USD118, helping reduce on-road costs.

The Vespa Sprint currently sells for around USD3,020-4,079 depending on the version, while the Vespa Primavera ranges from approximately USD2,981 to USD3,530.

Both models feature either 125cc or 150cc i-Get engines, steel monocoque body construction and front-wheel ABS braking systems.

Compared with Japanese scooters of similar engine capacity, Vespa models generally involve higher ownership and maintenance costs, while also weighing more.

According to dealerships, ongoing sales pressure and increasingly stable inventory levels have contributed to continued price reductions across many mainstream models.

If demand does not improve in the coming weeks, dealers expect further discounts or additional incentives such as registration support packages and complimentary accessories to attract customers.
