The information was released by Nguyen Thuong Hien, Director General of the Vietnam Meteorological and Hydrological Administration, who provided an update on weather conditions and natural hazards across the country during this period.
March 15 is also expected to see nationwide elections for the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term.
According to the forecast, northern Vietnam is currently experiencing the effects of a northeast monsoon that has brought colder conditions.
From the evening of March 12 to March 13, an additional cold surge is expected to strengthen this pattern and influence weather across several regions.
Notably, between March 13 and 14, provinces from Quang Tri to eastern Quang Ngai are forecast to experience rainfall, with some areas seeing moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms.
Weather outlook across regions from March 10 to 16
Northern Vietnam is expected to see little rainfall overall, with light fog in the early morning and generally dry conditions during the day. Nights and early mornings will remain cold.
In the mountainous provinces of Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Lao Cai and Son La, scattered showers and thunderstorms may occur on the evenings of March 13 and March 16.
Central Vietnam is forecast to experience showers and scattered rainfall between March 10 and 14.
In particular, areas from Quang Tri to eastern Quang Ngai may see moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms on March 10 and again between March 13 and 14.
From March 15 to 16, weather conditions in the region are expected to become more stable with reduced rainfall.
Areas from Thanh Hoa to Hue are forecast to see decreasing cloud cover and sunshine during midday and afternoon hours, while the south-central coastal region is expected to experience sunny daytime conditions.
In the Central Highlands and southern Vietnam, weather conditions between March 10 and 16 are expected to remain mostly dry with sunny days and light morning fog. In the Central Highlands, nights and mornings will be cooler.
Weather outlook for Hanoi
In Hanoi, the period from March 10 to 12 is forecast to remain dry with light morning fog. Skies are expected to clear toward midday and afternoon, bringing some sunshine, while nights and mornings remain chilly.
From March 13 to 15, skies will become cloudier, with light fog and occasional drizzle during the night and early morning. Conditions will improve later in the day.
Minimum temperatures during this period are expected to range from 17 to 19 degrees Celsius, while daytime highs will reach around 22 to 25 degrees.
Weather conditions on election day
Mai Van Khiem, Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, said weather conditions across Vietnam on election day, March 15, are expected to be generally favorable.
In northern provinces, rainfall will be limited, though coastal plains may experience fog and light mist in the morning. Some isolated showers may occur but mainly in the early hours, with clearer conditions later in the day.
Central provinces are expected to see cloudy skies with light rain in the morning, followed by sunshine in the afternoon.
Meanwhile, the Central Highlands and southern provinces are forecast to remain mostly dry and sunny, with no signs of heatwaves.
At sea and along coastal areas, northeast winds are expected to remain moderate, generally below level 5 on the Beaufort scale.
However, Khiem warned that dangerous weather phenomena such as thunderstorms, whirlwinds, lightning, hail and strong gusts have become increasingly complex in recent years.
Authorities and residents are therefore advised to closely follow official weather forecasts and warnings in order to take timely preventive measures.
