Last week residents in Mai Dich Street, Cau Giay District, Hanoi, panicked as a large, speeding car smashed into a key-locked house at night. They thought the vehicle was out of control, but never guessed that the accident was deliberate.
The man alleged to be the driver of the vehicle is said to have had an argument with his wife. He then decided to crash his car into his house to “threaten” his wife.
However, a police investigation showed that, maybe due to darkness, the driver made a mistake and smashed his car into his neighbor’s house next door. Property inside the house was seriously damaged, but no one was hurt.
The driver apologised to his neighbour and compensated for the damage he caused.
Police decided not to interfere in the case because the neighbor agreed for the case to be settled privately.
Many said it was light punishment for the driver. But he still has to pay the damage to his own car. — VNS
