Hoang Duc Thuan, the highest scorer at Hanoi Pharmacy University

Hoang Duc Thuan, a math major at the Hung Vuong High School for the Gifted in Phu Tho province, is the highest scorer at Hanoi Pharmacy University.

At first, Thuan registered to study at the Information Technology Faculty of the Hanoi University of Natural Sciences. But later, after consideration, he decided to apply for the pharmacy school.

Thuan was famous before he appeared in local newspapers with his impressive exam results. He got 28.25 scores for three A-group exam subjects (10 for math, 9.5 for physics and 8.75 for chemistry).

Thuan said the 10 score for math was a surprise. The won first prize at the provincial competition for excellent students in math when he was in 12th grade and first prize at the Hanoi Open Mathematics Competition when he was in the 10th grade.

The students who got the highest scores at the national high-school finals have successfully enrolled in the universities of their choice.

Nguyen Tran Cong Dat, one of two students who got a 10/10 score for math, is the highest scorer at the HCMC University of Education with 27.75 scores for A-group exam subjects (10 for math, 9.5 for chemistry and 8.25 for physics).

Dat’s decision to become a chemistry student at the HCMC University of Education surprised many people. In Vietnam, excellent students do not choose to become teachers because of modest salaries.

Explaining his decision, Dat said that he loves his teaching job and finds it interesting.

Le Ba Hoang, former student majoring in math at the Hung Vuong High School for the Gifted, said he will begin going to the Hanoi Medical University, one of the most prestigious and choosiest schools in Vietnam, on August 22.

Hoang got 9.8 scores in math, 10 in chemistry and 9.75 in biology at the national high school finals. He was the only examinee in Phu Tho who got 10 on the chemistry test.

Hoang said studying at the medical school was his dream, and he had made every effort in his three years at high school.

Vuong Xuan Hoang on August 20 enrolled in the Hanoi University of Science & Technology, the most prestigious technology school in Vietnam, where he will study for the next five years.

Hoang was first among students attending A-group exam subjects at the national high school finals – 29.05 scores (9.8 for math, 9.5 for physics and 9.75 for chemistry).

Unlike other high scorers, who are from schools for the gifted, Hoang is from a high school in Gia Dong commune in Bac Ninh province.
