VietNamNet Bridge – Signs of pollution have appeared in HCM City’s major canal of Tau Hu, the segment in Ward 16 of District 8, in recent days, as the water surface was covered by a thick layer of white foam with a bad smell.

Locals said this phenomenon appeared several weeks ago. The foam was everywhere, worrying the people living along the canal.

Local people said the white foam usually appeared from 3-5pm twice a week.

For those who live along the canal, this phenomenon is normal because they see it every year, but for passers-by, it is really odd.

"Snow-white foam on the canal as in the Antarctic. Whenever there was strong wind, the foam flewlike snow. Children liked playing with the foam while passers-by stopped to take pictures,” said a local woman named Xuyen.

She added that the foam was beautifulbut smelled badly.

On the day the foam appeared in large volumes, the households living along the canal had to close the door to prevent the foam from flying into their houses.

Twice a month, on the day of high tide, the foam covered the canal for a kilometer long. After a few hours, the foam drifted to the Saigon River and gradually melt away, local said.
