Samsung's new foldable phones, including the Z Fold 8 Ultra, Z Fold 8, and Z Flip 8, officially reached Vietnamese users at midnight on August 8.
Notably, while Samsung has positioned the new Z Fold 8 Ultra as its flagship model, users have chosen differently, with the majority opting for the new foldable smartphone called the Z Fold 8.
The foldable smartphone priced at VND46.99 million, newly designed with a wider body, a 4:3 aspect ratio when held horizontally, 3:4 when vertical, and a 10:16 outer screen, accounted for more than 60 percent of pre-orders at domestic retail chains.
According to Huy Nguyen, a tech expert from Schannel, users choose the Z Fold 8 mainly for its new design and new experience.
He said the design of the Z Fold 8 Ultra and Z Flip 8 is too familiar, so users are no longer very excited. Now that there is a product with a new design, they find it intriguing and want to try it out.
At the same time, media coverage focused on this new product line with many stories to tell, which has caused users who previously used the Fold line to come back to try this new product.
Nguyen Ngoc Duy Luan, a well-known KOL in the tech community, shared that the first Z Fold 8 is more attractive than other foldable phones due to its unique square design. It can attract a segment of customers who like something different and are tired of regular phones.
The inner screen ratio of the smartphone is also suitable for content consumption. Apps with a layout of an interface on one side and details on the other, such as the mail app, are much easier to view.
Another factor, according to Luan, is the price. The Z Fold 8 is cheaper than the Z Fold 8 Ultra and only a few million VND more than previous Z Fold generations.
The administrator of a large domestic forum also said that the important factor for users choosing Samsung's new foldable phone is its freshness. It has been a long time since smartphone brands have made major changes or created differences that attract users' attention. The high rate of users choosing the Z Fold 8 is good for the foldable phone market today.
At the launch event for Samsung's new foldable phone line on the evening of August 7th, Nguyen Ngoc Dat, CEO of Di Dong Viet, while holding the Z Fold 8, said the manufacturer has created a foldable phone with a much more reasonable aspect ratio, exactly what many users have been waiting for. In addition, the screen ratio of the phone also evokes nostalgia for a product from another once-beloved phone brand, prompting many users to choose it.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is 4.5mm thin when unfolded, 9.7mm when folded, weighs 201g, and has an IP48 water and dust resistance rating. Thanks to its Flex Titanium titanium alloy hinge system, the crease in the middle of the screen is handled more delicately. The device is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor similar to the Ultra version, but the rear camera system uses two 50MP sensors and has a 4,800 mAh battery.
Although it has attracted attention with its novel design, this new foldable smartphone also has many limitations. While other foldable smartphones such as the Oppo Find N6 have a battery capacity of up to 6,000 mAh, or the Honor Magic V5 with a 5,820 mAh battery, the battery capacity of the Z Fold 8 is considered quite modest. In fact, when using the inner screen and turning on 4G/5G, taking photos, or watching videos, the battery only lasts for 5-6 hours.
To have a "thin" foldable smartphone, the manufacturer has to compromise on camera quality, so the photo quality of the Z Fold 8 is only at an acceptable level. The device is not equipped with a telephoto lens and only has digital zoom, so the quality of photos taken from a distance is not highly rated.
