Trieu Mui Chai was admitted to the Ha Noi Central Oral and Maxillofacial Hospital on December 9 after suffering from a tumour for more than 25 years.

Trieu Mui Chai, a Dao Do (Red Dao) woman Tam Kim Ward, Nguyen Binh District, has been suffering from a rare brain herniation for more than twenty-five years that has resulted in a huge tumour developing on her face.

The tumour kept growing through the years, damaging one of her eyes, disfiguring her face and preventing her from breathing.

Doctors from Viet – Duc hospital and the Ha Noi Central Oral and Maxillofacial Hospital had a group consultation yesterday about the case.

"Though rare, her brain herniation is identified as a benign congenital case," Nguyen Manh Ha, dean of the maxillofacial plastic surgery department of the Ha Noi Central Oral and Maxillofacial Hospital said.

The hospital will spend a week after the consultation preparing for a brain surgery to help Chai get rid of the tumour.

"The doctors are feeling positive about the surgery despite Chai's age. She is almost 70," Ha said.

Professor Trinh Dinh Hai, president of the Ha Noi Central Oral and Maxillofacial Hospital said Chai was a special case that the hospital needed to take care of her.

The hospital will cover all medical expenses and use the best medical techniques to help Chai before, during and after the surgery.

It is reported that Chai and her daughter were deeply moved by the attention of the doctors.
