A young woman's sharing of her huge load of housework during Tet on social media has stirred controversy over the hard life of Vietnamese women.
Dan Tam besides the pile of dishes that she had to wash alone after a party during the 2018 Lunar New Year or Tet Holiday at her family.
Dan Tam is a young director of a company in Hanoi. She recently shared photos of her having to wash a huge pile of dishes after a Tet party at her parents-in-law's house which received lots of shares and comments.
Some of the comments from staff at Dan Tam's company said that they were shocked when seeing her boss in the pictures.
"I can't imagine that you a successful businesswoman who has two home helps in Hanoi would have to deal with that pile of housework alone," a comment from one of Dan Tam's staff said.
Many other people expressed sympathy with the woman, saying that this is a common scene at Vietnamese homes, especially in the country-side when only women do the housework.
"This is just the same picture with my parents-in-law's family," one said. "It is the responsibility of daughters-in-law to do the housework while their daughters can help or not. Men never touch this kind of work. Lucky me they are a small family and never have such a large party like this."
Some people said if they were in Dan Tam's situation, they would call for help from others and would not do anything if there was no help.
"Where were other people? Someone should help with that large work. Why you had to do it alone?" one wrote.
The woman, Nguyen Dan Tam, 34, shared with DTiNews that was not a rare scene in her parents-in-law hometown in the northern province of Nam Dinh.
"My parents-in-law held a lunch party on February 20 and I had to do the washing-up after that," she said. "I have five sisters-in-law and many nieces but no one helped. I asked one of my nieces to take the photos and shared the photo on Facebook."
Tam said it took her half a day to finish washing the dishes.
