In 2026, after the Lunar New Year holiday, workers will soon have two additional major breaks at the end of April. Notably, with reasonable use of annual leave, many employees may enjoy up to nine consecutive days off.

Under current regulations, employees are entitled to fully paid leave on Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day, which falls on the 10th day of the third lunar month, as well as on April 30 and May 1.

In 2026, Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day falls on Sunday, April 26. As it coincides with a weekly day off, employees will receive a compensatory day off on Monday, April 27. Including the weekend, this creates a three-day break from April 25 to April 27.

Immediately afterward, the April 30 Reunification Day and May 1 International Workers’ Day fall on Thursday and Friday. For those working under a Saturday-Sunday weekend schedule, the holiday will last four consecutive days from April 30 to May 3.

The gap between the two holiday periods is only two working days. If employees use their annual leave for those two days, they may take continuous leave from April 25 to May 3, totaling nine days.

According to the Labor Code, the annual leave schedule is decided by employers after consulting employees. Workers may also negotiate unpaid leave if approved by their companies.
