The 3-Cushion Carom Billiards World Cup 2017 kicked off on May 26 in Ho Chi Minh City with the participation of more than 100 players from 16 countries and territories.
Vietnam has 26 players attending the event, including 2017 Asian defending champion Nguyen Quoc Nguyen (world No 12), Tran Quyet Chien, (world No 15), Ma Minh Cam (world No 18), 2017 Asian silver medallist Duong Anh Vu (world No 29), and Ngo Dinh Nai (world No 36).
They will compete with world leading players such as Jaspers Dick of the Netherlands, Sanchez Daniel of Spain, Caudron Frédéric of Belgium, Blomdahl Torbjorn of Sweden and Polychronopoulos Nikos of Greece.
Previously, players vied in the qualifying round which took place from May 22-25 for slots in the final round. Among 32 finalists, six are Vietnamese.
This year’ event has total prize money of 52,000 EUR (1.3 billion VND).
The event, held by the municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, UMB, the Asian Carom Billiards Confederation and the National Sports Administration, is scheduled to conclude on May 28.
