Xin Man is a border and mountainous district of Ha Giang province, with complex terrain and an average altitude of 1,200 - 1,600m above sea level. The district has cool temperatures in the summer, cold in the winter, with the temperature often dropping below 5 degrees Celsius, snow or drizzle combined with covered fog for sometimes.
With such climate characteristics, Xin Man district is suitable for growing vegetables with high economic value, especially in winter such as oriental radish.
In recent years, the agricultural sector of Xin Man commune in particular and Xin Man district in general has seen strong development in both scale and quality of agricultural products.
Xin Man has identified agriculture as a key industry and to make more agricultural products become items that bring direct profits for local farmers. The People's Committee of Xin Man district has called for investment in agricultural products from businesses and individuals to create many new commercial models and products for local residents.
Mr. Pham Duy Hien, Chairman of Xin Man District People's Committee, said that Xin Man district has weather conditions suitable for the growing of high-value vegetables, and its soil conditions are also very good. Therefore, the quality of vegetables in Xin Man district is completely qualified for export to demanding markets and to be distributed by large supermarkets and food retail systems across the country. Xin Man district is determined to build specialized vegetable growing areas, ensure commodity production, and connect with large businesses across the country to help Xin Man farmers sell their products.
Notably, Xin Man district has coordinated with MISAKI Vietnam Co., Ltd. to plant 2 hectares of F1-VQ001 variety radish in Xin Man commune, with the participation of 11 households, to export to Japan.
This model has brought average income from 50 - 70 million VND/hectare/crop, which is many times higher than income from corn.
So far, 90 tons of pickled radishes from Xin Man district have been successfully exported to Japan, which is considered a demanding market with strict requirements on product quality and production processes.
In the early days of 2023, the first batch of 18 tons of pickled radishes from Xin Man district were successfully exported to Japan. Although the value of the first shipment is not too large, it is meaningful, because Japan is one of the world's most demanding markets.
To date, there have been 5 shipments of pickled radishes of Xin Man exported to this market. This is the result of the joint program of growing radishes based on the value chain associated with product consumption between Xin Man district and Vietnam Misaki Co., Ltd. (Japan) from 2021. The joint program brings various types of high-value crops in production to Xin Man, contributing to changing production thinking, creating more jobs for many people, eliminating hunger and reducing poverty in this disadvantaged border district.
The fact that local agricultural products exported to the Japanese market through Vietnam MISAKI Co., Ltd. has affirmed the position of Xin Man agricultural products, as the premise to export agricultural products to other countries around the world.
This is an opportunity for people to change their thinking and organize the development of agricultural products in Xin Man district towards goods, quality, safety, sustainability and close links from production to the consumer market, thereby improving efficiency and affirming the value of the district's agricultural products in the new market.
