Chau Thanh Vu from Ninh Thuan province not only won a full five-year scholarship to pursue a PhD degree in economics at Harvard University worth $400,000, but also a full doctoral scholarship from seven other leading American universities.

Vu initially dreamed of becoming a software engineer in Silicon, but he changed his mind after two years of studying at UWC with full scholarship and decided to become an economist to help change people’s lives.

Vu wants to work as a professor and a policy consultant for a public organization after obtaining a PhD. He says he will return to Vietnam as soon as he can because he is studying economics in order to help develop Vietnam’s economy.

Nguyen Tien Thanh, a former student at the Hanoi-Amsterdam high school for the gifted, one of the most prestigious schools in Hanoi, has become well known for being named the winner of an essay contest for high school students, held annually by the American magazine The Atlantic and College Board.

The competition attracted more than 2,000 students from 44 countries. This year, contestants had to write about an artwork that inspired them.

With an essay titled "Reading Raphael in Hanoi", writing about the famous painting "The School of Athens" by Raphael, Nguyen Tien Thanh scored highest and was named the winner.

Thanh has entered Duke University in the US. He won first prize at a national English competition when he was in the 11th grade, got a 112 score out of 120 TOEFL when he was a 10th grader, got 2,380 out of 2400 SAT score and got 800/800 for physics and maths on the SAT2.

Tran Nguyen Khanh Vy, a female student who can imitate the accent of seven languages, is now a student at the Diplomatic Academy. With an impressive high-school final exam score of 28.3 for three exam subjects, Vy succeeded in enrolling in the prestigious school.

Vy became known after imitating many different tones posted on internet. The beautiful girl can also play music, sing songs and act as a TV MC.
