Presenting various topics from contemporary life, the works displayed during the festival, which can be paintings, graphics, relief and statues, as well as installations, performances or body art, will showcase unique trends, ideas and styles, demonstrated via new techniques and material by the young artists.

The event will be jointly held by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibition Department, Việt Nam Fine Arts Association and Việt Nam University of Fine Arts.

“The Young Fine Arts Festival 2017 aims to encourage the young generation of Vietnamese artists’ creativity and development as well as contribute to an increase in artistic activities and works reflecting Việt Nam’s contemporary fine arts,” Vi Kiến Thành, head of the Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibition Department, said.

Launched in 2007, the triennial festival helps discover and encourage young artists to develop fine arts and integrate with global contemporary art.

It is also an opportunity for society and the national departments of culture to obtain a general view and a correct picture of Việt Nam’s contemporary fine arts scene; which, in turn, will lead to more timely support for the country’s arts in this era of globalisation.

Thành also said the event aimed to reinforce the Party and State’s support for young artists, who would create cultural pieces for today and tomorrow and contribute to a strong national cultural identity.

Young Vietnamese artists from 18 to 35 can submit photos of their entries to the Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibition Department on June 19-23.

Works chosen for the exhibition will be publicly announced on website www.ape.gove.vn.
