Dr. Nguyen Thanh Thai from the Vietnam-Cuba Hospital said the patient went to hospital because he could not stand the unbearable pain caused by tooth decay.

"When the patient opened his mouth for examination, doctors were very surprised to see the man with two sets of teeth on each jaw," said Dr. Nguyen Thi Mai Cham, who treated the case.

CT scanning showed that the patient had up to 13 extra teeth and four growing in the lower jaw, which already had enough teeth.

The patient told doctors that when he was 15, new teeth began appearing, one a year. He did not feel anything abnormal and did not pay attention to the teeth until his wife told him that she had never seen anyone with so many teeth like him. He only went to hospital for examination when he got a toothache.

Dr. Thai that it was normal for people to have 3-4 teeth more but this was the first time she saw one with up to 13 extra teeth, plus four fangs.

In this situation the man could not clean his teeth properly, causing tooth decay. Doctors said after tooth decay is treated, doctors will perform surgery to extract the teeth.

The doctors had no explanation for the extra set of teeth.
