On the evening of December 12, Da Nang Police announced that they had successfully broken up a large-scale gambling operation conducted online, primarily through football betting. The ring had processed more than $16 million in transactions, leading to the arrest of nine suspects.
Investigations revealed that the operation was led by Hoang Duy Ninh, 24, residing in Chien Dan commune, Da Nang, and Pham Ngoc Triem, 43, of Dien Ban ward, Da Nang.
Since May 2025, the group had contacted individuals on social media platforms to purchase "Super" betting accounts from overseas, with credit limits reaching up to 1.5 million yen. These master accounts were then divided into hundreds of sub-accounts (Master, Agent, Member), distributed to local operators and gamblers to access and place bets via the Bong88 website.
The suspects increased the conversion rate from VND 6,000 to between VND 10,000 and VND 50,000 per betting yen to illicitly maximize profits. They continuously changed operating methods and used "intermediary hubs" along with advanced technology to conceal financial flows and evade detection by authorities.
Initial findings showed that the total value of transactions reached over $16 million. In just over a month, from November 4 to December 9, 2025, over $3.2 million had been wagered.
On December 12, the Criminal Police Division of the Da Nang Police Department, in coordination with specialized units from the Ministry of Public Security and local law enforcement, conducted a coordinated operation to arrest Hoang Duy Ninh, Pham Ngoc Triem, and seven others involved in the gambling ring.
The seven individuals, all residents of Da Nang, were identified as Nguyen Duc Phuoc (42), Nguyen Dac Tuoi (39), Nguyen Dinh Lan (53), Phan Ngoc Chau (65), Nguyen Van My (50), Nguyen Duc Hiep (49), and Chau Ngoc Thanh Truyen (42).
Authorities confiscated nine mobile phones, more than 2,000 pages of betting records, approximately $6,500 in cash, and froze over $62,000 in related bank accounts.
The case remains under further investigation and prosecution.
