Swimmer Nguyen Diep Phuong Tram and young chess master Nguyen Le Cam Hien will be financially supported by the Nutrition Food Joint Stock Company (Nutifood) until 2024 towards their winning significant results at international competitions.

According to a sponsorship contract announced at a ceremony in Ho Chi Minh on April 24, Phuong Tram, 15, will be sponsored with VND18 billion (US$810,000), with VND2 billion per year, for overseas training in service of the mission of securing Olympic and Asian Games medals.

As scheduled, Tram, accompanied by trainer Vo Thi My Trang, will depart for a long-term training course in the United States this June, where she will train at Pleasanton Seahawks in California.

Phuong Tram is an emerging star of Vietnamese swimming who has won dozens of medals for the country at both regional and continental youth tournaments over the past two years.

“I would like to become a professional athlete. I have always dreamt of being able to train in the US like my idol, Nguyen Thi Anh Vien. That dream has now come true, and I promise to work hard in the US to live up to expectations”, Tram shared.

Meanwhile, 2015 world U-8 champion Nguyen Le Cam Hien will also be financially supported to enhance her qualification towards the goal of becoming a professional chess master.

The Quang Ninh-born athlete will receive financial assistance regarding nutrition as well as overseas training and competition annually.

On the occasion, Nutifood also announced the establishment of the Talent Academy – the first model of its kind in Vietnam.

This model will be implemented in June 2016 focusing first on a number of sports matching the physique of Vietnamese people, such as table tennis and badminton.
